to answer a question

An olivejane cover. So cute.

I have received a lot of questions over the years concerning my diapers
Some questions come from a thinly disguised disgust,
but most come from genuine interest and intrigue.
What am I talking about?
Something that's been around for years.
Cloth diapers.
I love cloth diapering.
I love the cute covers.
I love the softness of my diapers.
And it's not that disgusting.
I know.
Many of you may find that hard to believe.
It it is true.
Once you get going it's really no big deal.
I've been surprised that 4 of my friends here have converted.
And I'll take credit for that!
For my friend Heidi:
(and others thinking about taking the plunge)
This is what works for me.
I use prefold diapers along with a cover.
Prefolds are diapers that have "prefolded" layers in them
so you don't have to fold up your diaper repeatedly.
They last forever.
In fact, I used the same infant-sized prefolds for all three of my kids.
Not a bad investment
I have purchased them from Abby's Lane because they have free shipping.
But, Green Mountain Diapers has a lovely assortment of prefolds as well.
So many sizes in fact, that it kind of intimidates me.
But, if you are looking for just the right size, that store my the one for you.
As for a cover, I have tried all kinds.
Wool.
Polyurethane Laminate aka PUL
Cotton.
Fleece.
Pocket diapers.
I am using covers from gdiapers,
But have fallen in love recently with covers from OliveJane on etsy.
So, I use both.
Those two covers have worked best for me.
I'm not a huge fan of all-in-ones.
Too expensive and take forever to dry.
But that's my opinion.
Heidi, I hope this helps.
Congratulations on your new little one!
*Thanks everyone who answered my last post. I like to hear how other parents think and how that can affect my husband's career. But I still don't have a dress. Brinley?

Hey Marne, Hope you don't mind, I found your blog through Ashley... I am interested in cloth diapering, but what about cleaning up a number 2? Does it gross you out to put things that have been pooped on in your washing machine? And do you scrap it out into the toilet? How does that work? Maybe this is too much for a comment, my email is cheapinggirls@gmail.com. Thanks! Janaan

No marne, leave a comment (to above comment) for the rest of us inquiring minds. I think I'm too far in the game to convert to cloth unless Andrew unnaturally long diapre rash never goes away.

Out of curiosity- once you buy the diapers, covers, and accessories what does your total cost look like? And how often do you change sizes? And do you have to buy all new diapers and covers for each size? Sorry, I've turned into a total number-crunching budget girl so I have to do the math. And I here cloth diaper babies potty train sooner because they feel more wetness with the cloth. Is this true? If this is too much for a comment you can e-mail me or just roll your eyes and move to the next comment. But I really am curious, not just trying to be obnoxious
