Check out this bad boy!:

Check HER out would be more precise. Our neighbor's yard was a great breeding ground for this girl. We did a little research on this girl and she is an Argiope.

I hate, hate, hate spiders. Yikes!
Our family had one of these spiders on our porch in MD! We watched her all summer. Fascinating. She even left an egg sack behind. It hatched the following spring and we watched 100s of tiny spiders send out their "parachutes" and fly off in the wind.
Marne--What fun to hear from you! Hope all is going well for your family. Your children are beautiful!!! How fun. We should try to get together again with all the roommates when you are in town. Take care! p.s. Andrea is amazing at staying in touch with everyone!
wow. that is some spider! we have crickets. somewhere. in our house. (fyi, not nearly as charming as when i read about it in a book. sigh.)
We have that same web over our tomato plants! I think it's the same spider I haven't taken a look at her underside but she's big and yellow and black. I decided she was helping keep bugs off my tomatoes so I've left her alone. I'm amazed how quickly webs pop up around here. I find new webs covering our bushes every day, it's insane. Is it like that there too?
